Biochemical and Immunocytological Characterization of ACC Oxidase in Transgenic Grape Cells

ABSTRACT

We have previously shown that grape cells (Vitis vinifera L. cv Gamay) grown in vitro generate ethylene mostly from intracellular ACC [1]. In contrast ripening tomato fruits synthesize ethylene mainly from the apoplasm [2]. In the present work, we have transformed Gamay grape cells with the tomato pTOM 13 cDNA encoding tomato ACC oxidase and corresponding to a mRNA highly expressed during ripening 13]. The aim of this study is to determine where the pTOM 13-encoded protein is targeted in transgenic grape cells.
