Aphasia

ABSTRACT

Aphasia is an acquired disorder of symbolic communication. The victim of aphasia has difficulty producing and understanding speech, reading, and writing. A deaf person who becomes aphasic can no longer produce or understand sign language. The most severely affected patients even have difficulty communicating with gestures (Goodglass and Kaplan, 1963).
