ABSTRACT

The results of the studies of aeroabrasive wear of hot-pressed materials of the B4C-TiB2 system at different angles of abrasive particles attacks have been considered. It has been shown that the materials wear resistance is essentially affected by the relation of phases in the composite. The formation of 5–10 wt % titanium diboride in a B4C composite have been defined to provide a high wear resistance because of the increase of the fracture toughness KIc from 3.8 to 4.4 MPa·m1/2 on retention of the high hardness (HV = 20–23 GPa).
