ABSTRACT

The intermittent behavior of spatially extended systems is investigated using the example of unidirectionally coupled Pierce diodes. It isshown that the same type of intermittency as in finite-scaled systems is characteristic of this system near the boundary of the chaotic phase synchronization regime, i.e., needle-eye type intermittency, which is in fact also equivalent to type I intermittency with noise in the supercritical region.
