ABSTRACT

The effect of the structural state of Fe-14Zr alloy processed by intense flows of nitrogen ions on its tribotechnical properties and corrosion resistance in 10% aqueous solution of NaCl is investigated. It is demonstrated that saturation of the Fe-14Zr alloy with nitrogen ions at 570–620 K results in formation of a modified surface layer characterized by improved properties of wear and corrosion resistance. It is established that the decrease in mass wear by 30–40% and in corrosive dissolution by 25–30% is related to formation of amorphous structural components in the ion-modified layer. More... »
