ABSTRACT

In the temperature range of 50–120°C, the sorption of light hydrocarbons on the surfaces of monolithic sorbents obtained based on poly(divinyl benzene) was investigated. The measurements were performed for sorbates with one to four carbon atoms and five various carrier gases. The differential enthalpies and entropy loss during hydrocarbon sorption were determined. It was shown that, for light carrier gases (H2, N2, He), there is a linear correlation between enthalpy and entropy (compensation effect), which shows a negative slope ratio. For heavy carrier gases CO2 or N2O, the compensation straight line has a positive slope ratio, which is explained by the modification of the polymer monolith surface by carrier gas. It was noted that, for heavy carrier gases, a change is observed in the values of entropy and enthalpy of sorption with the change of the pressure of carrier gas in the column, which is also connected with the participation of the carrier gas in the competitive sorption on the monolith surface.
