ABSTRACT

A solvatothermal reaction of the octahedral cluster molybdenum complex (H3O)2[Mo6(μ3-Cl)8Cl6] · 6H2O with CaCl2 · 6H2O and OPPh3 in acetonitrile gave the known polymeric complex trans-[{Ca(OPPh3)4}{Mo6(μ3-Cl)8Cl6}]∞. However, a closer examination revealed that this system also produces a novel cluster complex, [Ca(OPPh3)5][Mo6(μ3-Cl)8Cl6] · OPPh3, which was isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction.
