ABSTRACT

The optical transmission of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) doped with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) has been studied in comparison to the analogous system without MWNTs. The transmission of MWNT-doped PDLC cells in crossed polarizers exhibits an anomalous dependence on the control voltage. The anomalous behavior is attributed to a preliminary partial orientation of molecules in the presence of carbon nanotubes in the dispersed liquid crystal droplets. More... »
