Research on new superconducting materials that can be potentially applicable for high-voltage electric power, such as magnesium diboride (MgB2), is underway in many scientific-technologically advanced countries as part of a search and development of novel superconducting materials. A supergrid project, based on the use of liquid hydrogen and MgB2 high-temperature superconductors with a transmission capacity of 5 GW, is being developed in the USA. More... »
