ABSTRACT

The group effect was absent in some cases of rearing of gypsy moth larvae on artificial nutrient medium with high-polymer components. The appearance of this effect is analyzed with respect to the composition of the artificial diet (AD), the hydrothermal conditions under which the parental generation develops, and population density. The meteorological conditions were found to have only a negligible influence on the group effect. The larvae from micropopulations living under the conditions of high humidity and high population density showed the greatest similarity of survival and development parameters observed in the larvae reared separately and in groups.
