ABSTRACT

The nonlinear screening of an ionized donor by the degenerate gas of conduction electrons in a crystalline semiconductor is analyzed. For nonlinear screening, the charge density of the electron cloud screening the ion is not proportional to the total electrostatic potential produced by the ion and cloud. As a result, the potential decreases with the distance from the ion more weakly than it does within the linear approximation and the energy of the electrostatic correlation between the ion and screening cloud is smaller.
