ABSTRACT

Rigorous and exact calculations are used to show that in earlier analytic studies of this problem by Barbour et al. [Phys. Rev. 92, 45 (1953)] and A\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document} $$\overset{\lower0.5em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle\smile}$}}{l} $$ \end{document}zenberg [Zh. Tekh. Fiz 11, 2079 (1954)], the influence of the electron space charge was not taken into account very accurately. It is shown that the real field of action is much weaker than that calculated geometrically. More... »
