ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to examine the perceived value of statistical consulting among statisticians within a university setting. Surveys were administered to statisticians at land-grant institutions, at known universities with consulting centers, and from the American Statistical Association Section on Statistical Consulting, to identify their perceptions on how statistical consulting is and should be valued within the university setting. Comparisons between consulting statisticians within and not within established consulting centers were examined. The results of the study provide evidence of the value of statistical consulting services to help inform university administrators and faculty review committees. Awareness of the value of consulting activities encourages collaborative efforts in the scientific community. More... »
