ABSTRACT

IT has been shown that clear cell-free extracts from a strain of Aerobacter aerogenes catalyse the oxidation of glucose, glucose-6-phosphate, hexose diphosphate, pyruvate and succinate1. As the rate of oxidation with these substrates was not appreciably modified by 20-min. centrifugation in a field of 15,000 g, and as the extract was transparent by transmitted light, it was obvious that the enzyme systems concerned were attached to very small elements.
