ABSTRACT

Recent data on the biosynthesis of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and its regulation in bacteria are reviewed, with special emphasis on the properties and regulation of the relevant enzymes and their genes. Some conditions promoting the synthesis of PHB and PHBV by natural, mutant, and recombinant producers are considered.
