ABSTRACT

A plasma electron source producing a ribbon beam at pressures of up to 60 mTorr is described. The discharge with an extended rectangular-section hollow cathode is used as a plasma generator. Electrons are extracted through the emission slit in the anode covered by a metal mesh. The maximum electron-beam current is 1 A, and the energy is 2–6 keV. The beam characteristics are presented, and the conditions for attaining the maximum operating pressure are analyzed. More... »
