ABSTRACT

An algorithm is described for identification of the composition of calculi in kidneys by the method of the digital dual-energy X-ray patterning. The informative parameter p for the basic types of calculi has been calculated for the energy interval of 40 to 150 keV. This parameter weakly depends on the photon energy (the spread is within 3.5%), and it value varies for different chemical compositions of kidney calculi from 15% (calcium phosphate and calcium oxalate) to 70% (calcium lactate and calcium oxalate). Our investigations have led us to the conclusion that the chemical composition of building materials of kidney calculi can be determined by the method of dual-energy X-ray photography. Recommendations concerning selection of optimal photon energies are given. More... »
