AUTHORS ABSTRACTThe problem of ignition of a solid by heat flux through a detachable shield is analyzed in a simple formulation. An approximate analytical solution of the problem is obtained, which shows that the dependence of the ignition time of the solid (with gaseous reaction products) becomes nonmonotonic if the thickness of the shield is small. Qualitative conclusions agree with numerical results. More... »
