ABSTRACT

This article recounts the experiences of walking and traveling in a city with an elderly person, my mother, and the ways those transform my perceptions of the everyday environment. This article further explores environmental and social features that serve as potential enablers or disablers for the moving through the environment for an elderly person and highlights how ability is contingent on the person-environment relationship. These explorations are particular relevant for many industrialized nations facing a rapidly aging population. More... »
