ABSTRACT

Describe the activities set up under the aegis of the perinatal health networks to prevent or reduce the maternal morbidity and mortality associated with immediate postpartum hemorrhages (<24 hours) and analyze whether these activities vary as a function of the networks’ characteristics. Multicenter, descriptive and etiologic crosssectional study. Coordinators of French perinatal health networks. The networks of overseas territories and networks with limited topics (social and economic vulnerability and pregnancy, etc.) were excluded. Online survey, from January through November 2010. Three e-mail reminders were sent. The perinatal networks had to describe their preexisting quality actions at the time of the survey. Of the 43 eligible networks, 25 coordinators responded (for a participation rate of 58.1%). The reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality was a priority for 92.0%. Accordingly, 82.6% had established a network protocol for PPH, and 65.2% conducted training activities for their professionals. An information system covering the topic of PPH was available for 65.2% of the networks. Analyses of morbidity and mortality were set up in 60.9%. One-third of the networks had performed audits. Indicators were collected routinely for 60.0%. The reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality was a priority for the majority of respondents, but the different type of amelioration activities showed room for improvement in most of the networks. 13 schema:description Describe the activities set up under the aegis of the perinatal health networks to prevent or reduce the maternal morbidity and mortality associated with immediate postpartum hemorrhages (<24 hours) and analyze whether these activities vary as a function of the networks’ characteristics.
