ABSTRACTBotulinum A toxin intradetrusor injections were a revolution in the therapeutic arsenal for treating neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity and are now considered an effective, safe, simple, conservative, medium term alternative, after failure of correctly administered anticholinergic therapy for incontinence caused by neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity and its clinical consequences in patients receiving intermittent catheterisation. Despite their increasing use in such disorders, as yet there are no standardised guidelines for neuro-urological monitoring of patients receiving toxin intradetrusor injections, nor are there guidelines for distinguishing between patients in this population who were treated for functional disorders (neurogenic irritation during micturition) and those whose problems were of an organic nature (uronephrological and general injury causing neurogenic detrusor hyperactivity). The use of the same method of follow-up makes it difficult to identify the optimal parameters for administering botulinum A toxin intradetrusor injections. We here suggest the drafting of guidelines by a multidisciplinary team of French-speaking specialists in neuro-urology relative to neuro-urological monitoring of patients receiving botulinum A toxin intradetrusor injections, based on a critical analysis of the literature data.
