ABSTRACT

In den letzten Jahren wurde vermehrt die Rolle von Ein-Personen-Unternehmen (EPU) als Alternative zur abhängigen Beschäftigung thematisiert. Aus wirtschaftpolitischer Sicht interessiert besonders das Wachstumspotential solcher Unternehmen. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert dieses Wachstumspotential auf Grundlage des Rahmenmodells von Gilbert, McDougall und Audretsch (2006), das fünf Gruppen von Wachstumsprädiktoren postuliert: Eigenschaften der Person, Ressourcen, Strategie, Branche und organisatorische Strukturen und Systeme. Der Modelltest erfolgt auf Basis logistischer Regressionsmodelle (mittelfristiges und langfristiges Wachstum) unter Verwendung eines Längsschnittdatensatzes von 188 österreichischen Ein-Personen-Gründungen, beobachtet über einen Zeitraum von acht Jahren. Die Analysen zeigen ein geringes, aber doch vorhandenes Wachstumspotential. 41% der überlebenden EPU beschäftigen mittelfristig zumindest eine/n HalbtagsmitarbeiterIn; langfristig steigt der Anteil auf 54% an. Als wichtigste Prädiktoren des Wachstums erweisen sich das Geschlecht und Humankapital der Gründerperson, der Kapitalbedarf zum Gründungszeitpunkt und das Verfolgen einer Wachstumsstrategie.
