The influence exerted by the structure and origin of samples of technical grade carbon, conditions of their thermal treatment (temperature, nature of a gas medium) and preliminary impregnation with activating additives, and other factors on the final characteristics of carbon aerogels: density, specific surface area, and sorption capacity, was studied.
