ABSTRACT

Multi-year research resulted in the synthesis of 10 new progesterone analogs, i.e., esters of mepregenol acetate (AMOL), and studies of their biological activity. The mechanism of the gestagenic activity of all obtained compounds was realized due to the presence of the steroid nucleus common to all ester molecules. The decrease in the level of the gestagenic effect observed after conversion of AMOL to its esters was associated with the presence of a C-3 radical in their structures; individual differences in the gestagenic activity of the esters, to peculiarities of its structure. The gestagenic and contraceptive activities were found not to be correlated, which was a very important fact in practice since it made it possible to use compounds with high gestagenic activity as therapeutic agents in gynecology and veterinary medicine and to use other compounds as highly active contraceptive drugs with a relatively low gestagenic effect. As a result, several candidate compounds were identified as bases for the development and approval of highly effective and safe drugs for use in veterinary practice in Russia. More... »
