ABSTRACT

We establish bounds on the maximal achievable value of the correlation coefficient between the measurements and the true values of a physical quantity, determined by the relative measurement error and its range of variation. A formula is developed for estimating the maximal correlation coefficient as a function of the relative error and its range of variation. A critical analysis is given of the possible reasons for getting abnormally high correlation coefficients in some indirect magnetic measurements. More... »
