ABSTRACT

The effect of the charge distribution in the top of a blast furnace on smelting processes and indices is predicted quantitatively based on an analytical study performed with a mathematical model of blast-furnace smelting that was developed at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy. It is established that an improvement in the uniformity of the radial distribution of the ore burden weakens the limiting effect of the most heavily loaded zones and shifts some of the thermochemical work to less heavily loaded zones.
