ABSTRACT

A study on the efficiency of a flavonoid compound as an antioxidant stabilizer for polypropylene (PP) is reported. Dihydromyricetin (DMY), a 2,3-dihydroflavonol compound, was extracted from Ampelopsis grossedentata. Its stabilizing activity was compared with that of a commercial phenolic antioxidant. Thermogravimetric analysis and oxidation onset temperature measurements performed on samples, as well as a α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl radical assay on DMY, provided evidence for the effectiveness of the DMY. Based on our results, it could be used as an efficient and high value-added additive for PP. DMY was less toxic and highly effective as a good, natural antioxidant for PP. More... »
