ABSTRACT

The vortex structure of the superfluid core of neutron stars is examined, taking the residual (RP), generated(poloidal) (GP), and toroidal (TP) magnetic fields into account. The motion of the vortex structure toward the core-crust boundary as the star spins down leads to the formation of two local “magnetic caps,” where the magnetic field increases with time and reaches the limit of the second critical field. The rate of energy release in the magnetic cap owing to the “collapse” of the magnetic field is found to be on the order of the intensity of the radio emission from pulsars. More... »
