ABSTRACT

BackgroundThe care of seriously injured patients is a challenge for interdisciplinary and interprofessional health care teams. In a short time period, decisions must be made; life-threatening injuries have to be recognized and treated promptly.ObjectiveIn this article, both preclinical and clinical training concepts for the treatment of severely injured patients are presented.MethodResearch and analysis oft he current literature. Results and conclusionsThe essential aspect that all concepts have in common is the structuring of the care of the severely injured. Courses like PHTLS® (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) and ATLS® (Advanced Trauma Life Support) or ATCN® (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses) teach structured and priority-orientated treatment, technical skills and the order for decision-making processes. Thus, these concepts should be integrated into the training of the relevant professional groups. For the ETC (European Trauma Course), interdisciplinary cooperation and the fact that the work must be performed in a certain order is placed in the foreground and should be attended by medical specialists. Team trainings such as Team®-G (Trauma Evaluation and Management Germany) or HOTT® (Handover Team Training) focus on interprofessional and interdisciplinary cooperation. Both concepts train complete teams with all associated team members from all disciplines and professional groups, ideally in the realistic environment of their own emergency room. More... »

16 schema:description BackgroundThe care of seriously injured patients is a challenge for interdisciplinary and interprofessional health care teams.
