ABSTRACT

In cooperation with a cable television program, we constructed an augmented reality (AR) system for the presentation of historical materials. We proposed a new media-fusion system called the historical materials’ presentation AR system, which integrates digital archives, AR technologies, and television programs. The proposed system consists of a mobile application and an AR-contents’ management system. The mobile application provides the user with historical museum materials in the form of AR contents and voice guidance. This application consists of the top screen, the AR-content acquisition screen, and the map screen. Meanwhile, the AR-content management system manages the AR contents and voice guidance provided to the user. This management system is a data management Web application for registering, editing, and deleting AR contents and the voice guidance used in the mobile application. The operability, necessity, and functionality of the historical materials’ presentation AR system were evaluated in a questionnaire survey of 45 subjects.
