ABSTRACT

Lion, having a speed advantage, chases Man inside a circular cage, the game terminating when their positions coincide. The solution to this game, computed for a speed-ratio 1.2, includes a “focal surface” of “radial” positions leading to curved motion by both players until termination, with Lion having to respond immediately to any change by Man between clockwise and anticlockwise motion. The solution also includes an “indifference zone” for Man from inside of which he must arrive at a particular point on the opposite side of the cage center from Lion by the time Lion reaches the center, curved motion by both then ensuing.
