ABSTRACT

Many binary eutectic alloys can be forced to solidify with an ingot structure that contains a very highly anisotropic arrangement of the phase particles. Fundamental concepts of solidification are reviewed to provide a basis for understanding the production of ingots of controlled eutectics.
