ABSTRACT

De nombreux aspects de la spermatogenèse sont connus pour être thermodépendants chez les mammifères. Il en est de même pour l’homme chez qui la production quantitative et qualitative de gamètes mâles s’effectue normalement à une température moyenne des testicules de 33 à 34,5°C. Tout comme chez de nombreuses espèces animales, l’élévation de la température testiculaire entraîne chez l’homme une réduction de la quantité et de la qualité des spermatozoïdes produits, réduction qui est fonction de l’intensité et de la durée de l’élévation de température ainsi que de l’objet chauffé (corps entier, scrotum, testicules). Une élévation quotidienne de 1 à 2°C pendant au moins les heures d’éveil induit un effet inhibiteur sur la spermatogenèse suffisant pour permettre une suspension réversible de la fertilité, c’est à dire une contraception masculine, sans effets secondaires majeurs, comme cela a été rapporté pour 37 couples sur 411 cycles d’exposition. La spermatogenèse et la fertilité redeviennent normales dans l’année qui suit l’arrêt de l’élévation de la température testiculaire. More... »
