ABSTRACT

We reduce four-dimensionalSU3 gauge theory to two-dimensionalU2 orU1 ×U1 Yang-Mills-Higgs theory and study the topology of the four-dimensional and two-dimensional theories. The configurations which correspond to nontrivial topology,i.e. vortices and saddle points, are discussed.
