ABSTRACT

A critical survey of various methods employed for grain density measurements is given, and a new scheme for the process of track formation is proposed. According to this scheme, which takes into account a process of induced development, grain density for a given emulsion, appears to depend on two main factors, namely, the probability that a grain be impressioned, which is obviously directly related to the energy loss, and what we call the « developing factor »K, which is characteristic of the degree of development of the plate. Both these factors can be easily determined experimentally. A series of measurements alongs tracks due to particles of different energy, appears to confirm the validity of our scheme. More... »
