ABSTRACT

A large discussion is made on the hypothesis that the primary protons produce an appreciable number of secondary nucleons in the atmosphere due to nuclear processes of elastic and quasi-elastic collisions. This number is evaluated to be between 10 and 15. On the ground of this hypothesis, many experimental data are discussed and a satisfactory interpretation is given. The experimental data are: 1) The data of different Authors about the absorption of the star-producing radiation in air and in various materials. 2) The data of different Authors about the absorption of the hard-showers-producing radiation in air and in various materials. 3)Anderson's and al. andAlikhanian's and al. data for the protonic spectrum at high altitude in the atmosphere. 4)Rossi's and al. data about the burst-producing radiation. 5)Salvini's and al. andFretter's photographs in cloud chamber. 6) Some features of stars in sensive emulsion.
