ABSTRACT

A multiplate cloud chamber has been operated at 3500 metres a.s.l., yielding 16000 photographs of random expansions. The present paper is intended to investigate some questions pertaining to the general cosmic ray phenomenology. In particular, the zenith angle dependence of the directional intensities of both hard and soft component is found to follow a squared cosine law. In the range 0.3–2 GeV, the differential energy spectrum of the soft component is shown to be well represented by a power law with exponent −2.5. The rate of production of nuclear disintegrations in lead and the correlation between the disintegrations and other events are examined. More... »
