ABSTRACT

It has been established that in the chyme of females of the seep Ovis ammon and the reindeer Rangifer tarandus with an actively functioning corpus luteum of the estrous cycle or in pregnancy, the total amounts and concentrations of progesterone and estradiol are higher, while the progesterone/estradiol ratio, lower, than in the blood serum. The conclusion has been made that the transport of these hormones across the rumen wall occurs from the blood into the chyme, while across the cecal wall, from the chyme into the blood. More... »
