ABSTRACT

The equations of the renormalization group are applied to the perturbative expansion of the photon propagator in Q.E.D. They are shown to correspond to a «coherence principle in the renormalization of the single graphs» and for this reason they cannot give, by themselves, any improvement of the perturbative expansion. This is no more the case if they are used together with an explicit assumption on the form of the propagator. Two conditions of this kind, which has been used in the literature, are discussed.
