ABSTRACT

Calculations of particle spectra and excitation functions of several reactions induced by alpha-particles with energy up to 160 MeV onA ∼ 60 andA ∼ 90 nuclei which satisfactorily reproduce the experimental data are presented. Different alpha-nucleus interaction mechanisms have been considered. The interaction of the alpha-particle with individual nucleons of the target nucleus leading to a pre-equilibrium cascade of alpha-nucleon scatterings during which the alpha may be re-emitted or may break up to four nucleons seem to be the dominant process. The calculations allow one to reproduce the experimental data with an accuracy comparable with that of previous calculations of nucleon-induced reactions, without introducing new free parameters.
