ABSTRACT

It is shown that « wave of permanent profile » solutions for the propagation of magnetic flux on a lossless, one-dimensional Josephson tunnel junction exist only for pulses which contain a single flux quantum. Quasi-linear equations are developed for the envelope of a pulse which contains many flux quanta. The Baecklund transformation is used to obtain an analytic expression for a pulse with two flux quanta and to derive additional conservation laws for pulses with many flux quanta. More... »
