ABSTRACT

An equation for the density matrix in an optical pumping experiment under conditions of double-quantum resonances with δm=2 is written in the quantized field formalism. The expression for the non-diagonal elements at the steady state is obtained for rotating and oscillating r.f. fields applied to the vapour. The one-step off-diagonal elements are monitored in Na vapour with the transverse-beam technique. The experimental results show good agreement with the theoretical expressions. More... »
