ABSTRACT

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the diffraction losses and the field configuration in microwave spherical Fabry-Perot interferometers, used as transmission resonators, in the confocal configuration. We have used an accurate and sensitive technique that allowed us to use very weak coupling and to record the mode patterns with negligible perturbation of the e.m. field inside the resonator. In this wayQ-values of the expected order of magnitude have been measured. The relative field distributions of the electric field inside the interferometer have been recorded for the fundamentalTEM00 and theTEM01 andTEM02 symmetric modes, at the wavelengths of 8.3 and 13.6 mm. The experimental results have been compared to those predicted by the theory, showing good agreement. More... »
