ABSTRACT

The48Ca(p.nψ)48Sc reaction has been investigated between 1.2 and 4 MeV proton bombarding energy at the 5.5 MV Van de Graaff accelerator of Padua University, with high energy resolution. The main features of the ground-state isobaric analogue resonance of49Sc have been studied, measuring the gamma-ray yield and spectra and the neutron decay with the time-of-flight technique. It is shown that the49Ca ground-state analogue is split into several components whose decay properties have been investigated. The total width of the major component atEp=1975 keV is about 2 keV, leading to a partial proton widthγp=1.9 or 0.08 keV, the first one giving a spectroscopic factor quite near to the expected single-particle value; however part of the analogue strength should be shared among at least seven components giving a typical example where theT> analogue state dissolves into the surroundingT< states with the same spin and parity. The level structure of48Sc has been studied fitting the gamma-rays found at several bombarding energies into a level scheme up to an excitation energy of 3.14 MeV. The results are compared with other48Ca(p,nψ) and48Ca(p,n) reactions and a more complete decay scheme is proposed. Spin and parity assignments have been made taking into account the gammadecay data; the 2- assignment is proposed for the 1402 keV level, which is assumed as arising from ad3/2 proton-hole coupled to the (f7/2)−1 neutron configuration. Moreover, the (πf7/2)(vf7/2)−1 spectrum assumed on the basis of the present experimental data is compared with the (πf7/2)(vf7/2) spectrum of42Sc via the particle-hole transformation. More... »

It is shown that the49Ca ground-state analogue is split into several components whose decay properties have been investigated. The total width of the major component atEp=1975 keV is about 2 keV, leading to a partial proton width\u03b3p=1.9 or 0.08 keV, the first one giving a spectroscopic factor quite near to the expected single-particle value; however part of the analogue strength should be shared among at least seven components giving a typical example where theT> analogue state dissolves into the surroundingT< states with the same spin and parity. The level structure of48Sc has been studied fitting the gamma-rays found at several bombarding energies into a level scheme up to an excitation energy of 3.14 MeV. The results are compared with other48Ca(p,n\u03c8) and48Ca(p,n) reactions and a more complete decay scheme is proposed.
