ABSTRACT

The reactions toPhytophthora infestans of the haulm of 43 potato varieties of different maturity were compared with that of the varietyMajestic. Laboratory tests assessed relative resistance by five criteria:ease of infection of leaf lamina;susceptibility of leaf tissue to fungal advance:spores produced per area of infected leaf;susceptibility of stem; andsusceptibility of leaf petiole when leaf axils were inoculated.Susceptibility or resistance for each criterion was based on a significant difference (P \t- 0,05) between the test variety mean andMajestic. ease of infection of leaf lamina; susceptibility of leaf tissue to fungal advance: spores produced per area of infected leaf; susceptibility of stem; and susceptibility of leaf petiole when leaf axils were inoculated.
