ABSTRACT

The DNA of the following herpesviruses was characterized for the first time by calculating the G+C content from the buoyant density in CsCl which was determined in the analytical ultracentrifuge: Varicella-Zoster virus, Cytomegaloviruses of African Green Monkeys, human Cytomegaloviruses, Equine Coitale Exanthema virus, Tree Shrew Herpesvirus and IBR/IPV viruses. The buoyant density and melting temperature of purified DNA from HSV-1, HSV-2, IBR- and Psr-virus was measured by biophysical methods and the G+C content could be calculated. The base composition of the DNA was chemically analyzed. From these four viruses and from V-Z and ECE virus the DNA-double-strandedness could be proved. The sedimentation coefficient of DNA from HSV-1, HSV-2 and Psr-virus was measured by analytical zone centrifugation and the molecular weight was calculated. More... »
