ABSTRACT

Methylolation and aldol condensation reactions in gas phase over silica supported niobium, tantalum and tungsten oxides as catalysts were studied. Methyl methacrylate from formaldehyde and methyl propionate, 2-ethyl acrolein from formaldehyde and n-butyraldehyde, and 2-ethyl hexenal from autocondensation of n-butyraldehyde in high yields were obtained.
