ABSTRACT

A synchronous satellite is periodic in both inertial and earth axes, and can be sensed continuously by a tracking station on the earth, if the station is suitably located. When this tracker senses only range to the satellite, with a normal error of known covariance, the orbit elements can be estimated. The analysis here determines the estimates and the covariances of the orbit elements for the satellite. Numerical results are given for a typical case. More... »
