ABSTRACT

The viscosity or shear modulus as well as the compression modulus of concentrated dispersions of sperical particles is calculated according to a method first developed byH. Fröhlich andR. Sack in 1945. The method accounts for the pure mechanical-geometrical effect of the presence of the particles only. Results are compared with those found experimentally for mixtures of mineral aggregate particles and bitumen and a few other systems.Though the original theory was meant to be used for dilute dispersions only, a fair agreement with experimental results up to volume concentrations of 60% was found to exist.
