ABSTRACT

There is a formal similarity between stationary exterior solutions of the Einstein equations and static magnetic solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell theory. This is particularly evident for axially symmetric fields, and one finds that the sets of equations governing the two cases can be transformed one into the other by simple transformations of the dependent variables.
